Seggiano’s Vegan Artisan Sourdough Easter Colomba is the perfect addition to your Easter table. This dove-shaped cake (Colomba means dove in Italian), is traditionally served at Easter as a message of hope, peace, and renewal. Naturally leavened with 30 year old mother yeast, and made in the traditional way by a family bakery, each Colomba takes 36 hours to make (and no time at all to eat!).
Although labelled a cake, it has an enriched bread-like texture, akin to Panettone. Like its Christmas counterpart, Seggiano’s Colomba features cocoa butter, candied fruits, natural vanilla, and turmeric, which add fragrance, moisture, and colour – ensuring a luxurious bite that is true to tradition. Plus, it has GMO-free traceability and is free from industrial additives or trans fatty emulsifiers. One difference is the topping – this Colomba is finished with a crunchy hazelnut glaze with whole almonds.
Simply slice and enjoy as is, at room temperature, or lightly toast and serve with a generous spread of vegan butter – for extra luxury! It also works wonderfully well when dunked into coffee. We dare say you could also turn it into bread and vegan butter pudding, or vegan eggy bread/’French toast’. It’s attractive box make it a perfect gift, too!
